Vero Beach, Florida – Quail Valley Charities has funded a $20,000 grant to The Learning Alliance to support the continuation of The Learning Alliance Accelerated Professional Development programs. The professional development programs have given over 200 SDIRC teachers the opportunity to learn from national experts Kurt Wootton (author of A REASON TO READ and Founder of The Arts Literacy Project with Brown University), and Tina Blythe (author of many books including THE TEACHING FOR UNDERSTANDING GUIDE and senior instructor/program designer for Harvard University’s Project Zero.)
The grant was provided in March, 2016, and The Learning Alliance will use it to continue to provide the high-level accelerated teacher professional development programs to all teachers within the School District of Indian River County.
The programs are offered to support the Indian River County’s Moonshot Moment goal which is to have 90% of children reading on grade level by the end of third grade. Teacher professional development is a critical component to reaching this literacy goal, by providing teachers with the latest research-based teaching practices that work in today’s 21st century classroom.
"We are so thankful for this expert partner grant from Quail Valley Charities. It fuels our ability to support our teachers with leading international experts from Brown and Harvard. Together with front line teachers, we are transforming classroom instruction and co-creating Moonshot Classrooms where creativity, courage, compassion and curiosity propel learning." -Barbara Hammond, The Learning Alliance CEO
