The Moonshot Moment Goal is to have 90% of all students reading on
grade level by third grade.
We are working with community leaders to develop programs to support this goal, and together we can transform the next generation of Indian River County. We know that literacy is the gateway, and together we can be a model for the nation. Visit the Moonshot Moment Web Site!

Moonshot Academy After School Program
Moonshot Academy provides afterschool literacy instruction and enrichment for students, along with professional development and planning time for teachers. Currently on 7 campuses, the programs take place 3 days a week for 7 weeks and are offered 3 times a year. They provide valuable time on task to help struggling students catch up and give teachers the opportunity to try new strategies which they will then take back to their classrooms. Data shows that the Moonshot Academy program is extremely effective in moving struggling and at risk readers to proficiency.
Literacy on the Lagoon and Literacy in Motion
Literacy on the Lagoon and Literacy in Motion are innovative, engaging summer camps provided in partnership with the Environmental Learning Center and the Vero Beach Museum of Art. These camps combine hands on, multisensory learning experiences with the carefree fun of attending summer camp. The camps run 5 days a week for 4 weeks.
In addition to our own initiatives and programs, we are delighted that so many other organizations, camps and events have embraced the Moonshot Moment Goal and are incorporating literacy into their already established programs. You will find literacy components at summer camps such as The Skate Factory, Indian River Karate Association, The Vero Beach Museum of Art camps and more.
