Moonshot Moment Bookmobile – on the road again
The Learning Alliance Moonshot Moment Bookmobile is back on the road again and will be making scheduled stops on Monday from June 14 through August 12, 2021, in Fellsmere. The mobile literacy unit travels around the county, providing children and families with the opportunity to select from a cache of quality books. The children can choose books they are interested in with the assistance of volunteers.
The School District of Indian River County will also be delivering bags of food in conjunction with TLA’s Moonshot Moment Bookmobile’s schedule at the stops before noon. In essence this collaborative effort will provide “food for the brain and food for the body.”
“During the pandemic, we were unable to visit our friends in the community to share our love of reading,” said Marie O’Brien, TLA manager of digital media and community outreach. “That didn’t stop us from getting books into the hands of our youngest readers. We were able to provide books to local community partners and through our Moonshot Reading Captains.”
The Fellsmere Police Department has generously offered to tow the Bookmobile with Fellsmere Police Chaplain Ron Combs spearheading the operation. He has also enlisted help from the River of Life Church of God in Fellsmere to provide snacks and beverages to those children visiting TLA’s Moonshot Moment Bookmobile. For information, contact Chaplain Ron Combs at 407-579-3881 or combsronnie@yahoo.com.
We need your help to restock the Bookmobile. TLA is collecting new or very gently used books during our book drive so that the children will continue to have a variety of age-appropriate, highly interesting books from which to choose.
Book donations can be delivered to The Learning Alliance office at 2066 14th Avenue, Suite 102 in downtown Vero Beach between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Books also can be delivered to Fellsmere Police Chaplain, Ron Combs at the River of Life Church of God located at 99 N. Pine Street, Fellsmere.
We have limited space in the Moonshot Moment Bookmobile and can only accept new or gently used children’s books. We are also in need of newer cookbooks. If you have books that aren’t newer or in the best condition, please donate them to the Free Little Libraries or one of our other sites. For a map of those sites, visit moonshotmoment.org.
