Families on Shaky Ground: Uncloaking and Addressing the Realities of Persistent Instability
Early childhood systems have been devastated by the pandemic-precipitated crisis. Child care deserts have expanded, and families have been left trying to create a patchwork of care for their children — an especially daunting challenge in economically challenged, fragile and otherwise marginalized communities. The pandemic’s impact on the stress levels of children, of their families and of child care providers has been immense. Worries about food security, health issues, returning to work because of child care issues and other stressors have all impacted family well-being.
Please join us on January 25, from 3−4:30 p.m. ET, as we hear from early childhood leaders in examining the impact of the pandemic on families with young children. This session will explore some extraordinary data that has been collected by Phil Fisher, Ph.D., and his colleagues at the University of Oregon. The data is from the Rapid Assessment of Pandemic Impact on Development-Early Childhood ― RAPID-EC ― an ongoing national survey of households with children, ages 0–5, designed to gather essential information on the needs, health-promoting behaviors and well-being of children and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
