Updates from The Learning Alliance & Kindergarten Readiness Collaborative
Dear Friends of TLA and KRC,
As we navigate through these uncertain times, we want to keep you updated on the work we are doing in conjunction with the School District and throughout our community to help our students and families. Families across our county are learning how to support their children’s learning, and we are committed to connecting them to the resources and tools necessary to best support their needs, while hopefully offering some relief along the way. Barbara Hammond led a highly acclaimed resiliency seminar entitled “Where Does Resiliency Come From?” on March 25 for our MCAN Leaders, which featured International Leadership Coach Barbara Patterson. Below are some additional ways we are reaching out to families to help promote literacy and learning at home.

- Providing weekly literacy check-ins with families and connecting them to the tools and resources they need during this time

Our Impact Team works hand in hand with The School District of Indian River County to provide support in early literacy to students, teachers, and school administrators. As we navigate through transitioning all of our teachers, students, and families to online learning from home, we are supporting the school district by:
- Working with the Kindergarten-3rd grade teachers to create virtual lessons and online literacy experiences
- Piloting online reading tutoring trials to find out which strategies are the most effective
- Developing mini Moonshot After-school Academy video lessons that can supplement teacher lessons and provide additional support to our struggling readers
- Hosting weekly virtual Moonshot Monday sessions to support and train teachers on early literacy strategies
